Welcome to AFK Clinic for custom made orthotics
Since feet are the major weight-bearing part of the body, foot pain is common. The foot contains 26 bones, up to 2 sesamoid bones, and many small structures which support and balance the weight of the entire body. Walking puts up to 1.5 times one’s body weight on the foot whilst running will put 3 times the body weight. This weight stress combined with the average 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day over time causes biomechanical problems.
Our biomechanics development depends on;
- Our DNA.
- How our skeletal system (bones) develops over time.
- How our soft tissue develops.
- How our brain interprets how we move.
- And the stress placed on the skeletal and soft tissue in our day to day activities.
all of which creates an Individual walking sequence for everybody.
Studies have concluded that 70% of western society has foot problems however most people accept the consequential foot, ankle, knee, hip or lower back pain as normal and blame standing or walking on hard surfaces.
Foot pain is not normal and should not be ignored; problems can affect the functioning of other parts of the body, including the hips, knees, and back. These are foot-related problems that may be related to biomechanical issues.
Also Biomechanical assessments may benefit people who do not suffer any pain, this may include,
- People who must walk or stand excessively at their workplace.
- People active in sports, as orthotics will often increase endurance, performance and strength.
- Overweight individuals, where orthotics can help to counteract the extra stress on the feet.
- Older adults, who may have developed arthritis in their feet, orthotics are particularly effective in relieving foot fatigue and discomfort.
- Adults or Children who have a foot deformity.
